How do I qualify to become an Election Worker?


  • Be registered to vote in Nassau County.
  • Read, write, speak the English language.
  • You can't be a candidate or have an immediate family member as a candidate on the ballot.
  • Be able to lift at least 15-30 pounds and endure prolonged periods of standing and sitting.
  • Have an email address and access to a computer and the internet.
  • Successfully complete all training and assessments prior to each election.
  • Remain nonpartisan while at the polls.
  • Be able to work a 14-hour day, with patience and courtesy to others.

What training do I need?


Florida Law requires that election workers attend training before each election. Classes include hands-on training with the electronic voting equipment and information on serving voters with disabilities.

Am I paid to be an election worker?


Yes, all election workers are paid positions. The daily rate is based on the position you are assigned to work. 

  • Clerk

    • Election Day - $300 per day - plus $50 for supply pick up and delivery
    • Early voting - $215 per day
    • This position is mandated by Florida Statutes and is responsible for overseeing all tasks and activities at the polling place.
    • Performs pre and post election reconciliation paperwork and duties.
    • Operates electronic voter check-in equipment.
    • A Clerk must demonstrate working knowledge of the laws and procedures related to voter registration, voting system operation, balloting and polling place procedures, and problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Assistant Clerk

    • Election Day - $245 per day
    • Early Voting - $175 per day
    • Assists the Clerk with pre and post-election reconciliation paperwork and duties.
    • Operates electronic voter check-in equipment. 
    • This position is granted authority by Florida Statutes to supervise in the Clerk's absence.
    • An Assistant Clerk must demonstrate working knowledge of the laws and procedures related to voter registration, voting system operation, balloting and polling place procedures, and problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.to supervise in the Clerk's absence.
  • Voting System Specialist

    • Election Day - $270 per day
    • Early Voting - $195 per day
    • Trains extensively on and manages all voting equipment in the polling place.
    • Performs pre and post-election paperwork and duties. 
    • Monitors and assists voters with the voting process and equipment.
  • Assistant Voting System Specialist

    • Election Day - $245 per day
    • Early Voting - $175 per day
    • Trains extensively on all voting equipment in the polling place.
    • Assist the Voting Systems Specialist with monitoring and assisting voters with the voting process and equipment.
    • Acts as the Voting System Specialist in the Voting System Specialist's absence.
  • EViD Operator

    • Election Day - $205 per day
    • Early Voting - $145 per day
    • Greets and processes voters during check-in.
    • Operates voter check-in equipment.
    • Verifies photo and signature ID and issues ballots.
  • Deputy

    • Election Day - $185 per day
    • Early Voting - $140 per day
    • Must be deputized by the Nassau County Sheriff's office at the training
    • Greets voters and assists in maintaining order at the polling place.
    • Monitors and enforces the 100' no solicitation area outside of the polling place.
  • Early Voting Courier

    • $15 per hour (average of 2.5 to 4 hours daily during Early Voting)
    • $.56 per mile
    • Begins each afternoon at the Elections Office to pick up supplies
    • Delivers supplies to the assigned Early Voting Site
    • Returns to the Elections Office with secured ballots and other materials
    • Six positions are available
  • Election Technicians

    • $15 per hour
    • Hours are  8:00 am to 6:30 pm during  Early Voting and 6:00 am to 9:00 pm on Election Day
    • Responsible for several polling places within a zone
    • Assist election workers with technical problems
    • Deliver supplies as needed
    • Seven positions are available
  • Equipment Testing

    • $15 per hour (hours vary)
    • Marks ballots for Logic & Accuracy Testing
    • Assist the Director of Elections during the Logic & Accuracy Testing
  • Precinct Cabinet Assembly & Polling Place Set Up

    • $15 per hour (hours vary over multiple days)
    • Organize and pack materials for Early Voting and Election Day in the precinct cabinets
    • Load equipment from warehouse to trucks
    • Deliver equipment and set up the polling place
    • Seven positions are available
  • Supervised Voting

    • $15 per hour (hours vary)
    • Meet elections staff a local assisted living facilities
    • Set up a small polling place
    • Two workers from different parties will assist residents with the voting process
    • Up to ten positions are available

Training Sessions

  • All workers are required by state law to attend at least one training session prior to each election. 
  • Election Workers are paid $50 per training session attended.
  • If you are assigned a position to work on Election Day, but do not report for duty, you will not receive any training pay.
  • Alternates will receive training pay regardless of whether they work on Election Day or not (standby pay).
