The materials on this page should answer many of the questions you may have about filing/qualifying for office, but it is not comprehensive. It is your responsibility, as a candidate, to follow all relevant Florida election laws and local charters that might have a bearing on your filing or your qualifications to run for office.

Qualify for Office

The information on this page applies to candidates for county office, who qualify with our office. Candidates for federal, state or multi-county offices should contact the Florida Division of Elections.

  • Candidates must qualify to run for office by submitting qualifying forms and a qualifying fee. In lieu of paying a qualifying fee, you may choose to qualify by petition or as a write-in candidate.

  • The cost for verifying candidate petitions is $0.10 per petition. We kindly request payment is made using exact change as we do not have the availability to provide change. Payment by check is preferred.
  • Our office will begin accepting qualifying forms and fees during the pre-qualifying period, which takes place 14 days prior to the official qualifying dates.(Forms and fees will then be processed on the first day of qualifying week.) All qualifying forms and fees (if applicable) must be received no later than noon on the last day of the qualifying period.
